A history of Dulwich Craft Fair

			The nationally renowned Dulwich Crafts with its events in Dulwich brings the finest professional craftspeople from around the country together at three annual fairs and now on-line. Our objective is to expose the artists and their work to the widest possible audience, as well as offering a valuable resource for those seeking unique and exquisitely crafted works of art. Our current manifesto is very much born out of our history. The first Dulwich Craft Fair was held in 1977 by a small group of makers who were concerned to see craft promoted professionally while raising money for charity. Since then it has gone from strength to strength, and there are now three annual fairs held in Dulwich with at least forty stands at each. The standard of work is extremely high and as the demand to exhibit more than outstrips the space available, we operate a rotational system. Our policy is the same as it was in 1977: We do not have any bought-in goods or mixed craft stalls. Everything that is for sale must have been made by the exhibitor, and the creative atmosphere is added to immeasurably by the fact that some stall-holders continue to work as the public walk round the fair. With exhibitors from every discipline, from toymakers to glass blowers, from potters to jewellers, Dulwich Crafts is a truly all-encompassing organisation. As we move into the new millenium, we hope to continue to bring together craftworkers and members of the public not only at our regular fairs but also over the internet.
